The Big Picture

As our campaign for Waynesboro School Board has grown, I have been deeply grateful to receive personal encouragement and support from neighbors across the political spectrum—including individuals active in our local political parties who recognize that when it comes to our schools, children must come before party lines.

At the same time, I have made a clear commitment to decline all institutional party backing and partisan machinery:

  • Declined party campaign contributions and donations.

  • Declined party-organized canvassing, voter phone lists, and partisan field resources.

  • Declined participating in party events or using party resources to collect ballot signatures or distribute yard signs.

Under Virginia law, school board seats are nonpartisan for a very specific reason:

Our classrooms belong to the entire community, not a political party.

Why Non-partisan Leadership Matters

Man in glasses holds sign reading My non-partisan leadership represents ALL of Waynesboro—not just one party, overlooking Waynesboro.

A school board member’s job isn’t to advance a partisan agenda or answer to a political party chairperson.

School board members vote on:

  • School security infrastructure and emergency communication.

  • Reading curricula and early literacy interventions.

  • Teacher compensation and protected classroom planning time.

  • Expanding career, technical, and trade pathways at Valley Tech.

No political party platform can grade an essay, drive a school bus, manage a classroom of twenty-five students, or comfort a child during a crisis.

Those responsibilities require front-line experience, local accountability, and a willingness to listen to every neighbor.

And that's what I bring for you. For everyone.

Where My Accountability Lies

My campaign didn’t start in a political committee room—it started at my kitchen table as a WPS dad, a former teacher, and a neighbor.

  • I taught high school English, so I know how board votes affect a teacher's daily workload.

  • My wife Amy is an elementary classroom teacher, so I hear the unfiltered realities of public schools every evening.

  • We have two sons attending Waynesboro Public Schools right now, so every decision the board makes directly affects my own family.

Four Nonpartisan Priorities for Waynesboro

When I am elected to the School Board, my non-partisan priorities will be exclusively on practical solutions that benefit our students and staff:

  • Supporting Our Educators: Protecting dedicated teacher planning time, reducing unnecessary administrative mandates, and prioritizing competitive retention so great teachers stay in Waynesboro.

  • Common-Sense Classroom Safety: Implementing wearable crisis alert badges for all staff, placing dedicated SROs in our elementary schools, and establishing a formal district Crisis Communication Playbook.

  • Dignity for Every Pathway: Expanding access to the Valley Career & Technical Center (VCTC), supporting apprenticeships and mentorships, and college, career, and military receive equal emphasis.

  • Special Education & Universal Access: Providing real resources for case managers and paraprofessionals while ensuring parents of students with IEPs and 504 plans are treated as respected partners.

The Bottom Line

I welcome the support of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents who care about the future of Waynesboro Public Schools.

When you enter the voting booth at the Registrar’s Office or at your precinct on November 3, there are no party labels on the ballot. That is how our schools should be run: fueled by neighbors, centered on students, and grounded in the classroom.
